Björk's music always gives me the momentum to propel myself into the next chapter of life & adventure.

POST carried me from Asheville to SF; HOMOGENIC took me from SF to NYC for the first time.
When MEDÚLLA was released, I was living underground in The Hobbit Hole.
I'd convinced myself that I *wanted* to be there, but in reality, I was hiding from life & the world.
These songs, especially WHO IS IT, helped me get my courage and focus together to come back to NYC.
And we've had a pretty good run, this second time around, haven't we, NYC?

A theme of MEDÚLLA is birth, its joys & pains.
Let's hope that the pains of 2009 birth into some joy in 2010!

I remember the summer between 7th & 8th grade, opening a music magazine & seeing a photo of Mari Wilson, with the quote, "Diana Ross sells love; I sell TUPPERWARE™."
She made an impression on me.
It was many years before I could track down her music in North Carolina, but when I did, (thanks, Scott), the wait was totally worth it.
Mari is a precursor of Pizzicato Five, Saint Etienne, The Gentle People and all those wonderful people whose music is a way of creatively archiving everything thats come before, while adding new glamor & drama.

Peggy Lee was really ahead of her time with this album!
Accompanied by just a harpist, she spouts haikus, love poems & lullabyes, acting and singing the imagery with such understated sensitivity and earnestness.
I read in Miss Peggy Lee's autobiography that this album was very important to her.
She was right to be proud of it; its a well of purity & beauty that I draw from again & again.

There was a time that i thought that Linda Ronstadt, Susan Lucci & my Aunt Edie were all the same person; up to that point, they were the three most beautiful women i'd ever seen, so it just made sense that they were all the same person!

Bob is my Dad.
Yeah, he's my stepdad, but he's been so much more of areal-life force & influence in life than the biological guy.
Bob is the one who taught us at any early age that Religion & Politics are all a big scam, The American Dream is a joke built on lies, & that animals are better than people.

My humor, questioning nature, generosity & fierce loyalty all come from Bob.

One of the things that was such a blessing all through growing up was Bob's record collection.
Crazy stuff from the 40s -early 70s...my favorite was Martin Denny's QUIET VILLAGE.
I would stare at the cover for hours, making up stories to go with the image, wondering what kind of animals were in her jungle...& what would i find inside that hut?

Not to mention drifitng & dreaming to Martin Denny's music...which was taking me on psychedelic trips looooong before i even knew what drugs or meditation were.

I am so grateful for the head start Bob gave us in life, teaching us to question authority, read more, learn more, & ABOVE ALL, BE KIND TO ANIMALS.
